Try the M-Audio Axiom 25. I owned one and I still own an Axiom 61. The 25 had kick-*** little drum pads. And for some reason - IIRC - they sounded without being plugged in.
I don't know why. My 61 pads don't do that. I have to use a MIDI out cable to a synth on MIDI channel 10. Maybe the 25 had a cable plugged in but automatically mapped and triggered drums on the synth. I know it was great for drum pads. The 61 has the same pads. But I have to specifically map them to the drums on the synth.
