That's a pretty tough call. I like the Yamahas, I have one and they're hard to beat for what they cost.

If you're concerned about size, both the Yamaha and the Washburn would be considered dreadnoughts by just about everyone, even though Yamaha calls theirs a Folk Guitar. It's actually a little wider in the lower bout than a true dreadnought, but to me it seems to be more comfortable than my Martin dread. You said you're 5'9" tall. I'm shorter than that and I don't have a problem with either of mine........so I don't think you would either.

And, the price you quoted on the Washburn is really good. From what I was able to find, they're going for about $100 more than the price you found. The Washburn WD10S also gets great reviews.........so, what can I say.

Too bad you can't get somewhere to actually play both of them to compare them. Looks like it's time to flip a coin and take a chance.

Realistically, either one would make a fine guitar to learn on. Have fun.
