By 'rounder' I'm presuming a slower attack / decay with a less pronounced hump in between type of envelope Alan ?
What is causing my perception that a typical 4 3/4 inch tailblock depth in - say in a CGCGCE tuning using 13-56 gauge gives me a more balanced bottom to top sound.
I'm aware the heavier gauge on the bottom three compensates for lose of tension / volume but I haven't been able to get the 'balance' I get in these circumstances on a typical Martin depth (4 - 4 1/4) except on a few exceptional instruments, read - exceptional prices also.
thanks for your input.
