I know that Torres made a guitar body out of paper mache and I used to own an Ovation with a back of non-wood material. I am open to these because it's not about tradition, it's about sound. I also know that tuning pegs at one time were made of wood or bone instead of metal like today's tuners. Wood isn't as plentiful as it once was. Some of these woods are cut from trees that take many years to grow so in a world of shrinking natural resourses, perhaps it's time to explore alternative materials to be a little more "green".
