Clint, if you get the spare coin, I've found that the combination of an SM-57 and a Royer R-121 ribbon is about the best I've found for recording an amp. The M-57 gets the midrange and the R-121 gets everything else. The result is full but defined. The R-121 isn't cheap at $1300, though.
