I have gotten in the habit of removing it completely (even if inconvenient) and putting it in the headstock area. I have done that mostly because of different strap materials and worry that leaving it touching the guitar body might affect the finish of various guitars.

However, I now use suede straps almost exclusively (for comfort and because there are no buckles to ding the guitar). I never thought of Fazool's idea and will try that out. Thanks Fazool!
