Default Martin 7-28

Today in the newspaper I read

"For Sale
Martin 7-28 guitar with hardshell case. 1982 near mint cond. Rare 7/8 size D-28. Martin manufacrtured only 208 of these guitars. Original owner with papers. $xxxx.xx" (let's just say more than the street value of a new D28)

Since this is the paper where I found my 1 year old mint condition D45V at under xx% off list, I thought I'd try to find out more about this one.

Why did Martin make a 7/8 size D28?
Does anyone own one of these?
Is it worth a look and listen?
I've heard the early 80's aren't neccesarily the greatest of Martin times. Seems overpriced for a 1982 D28. Is there value in the 7/8 size???
