I recently purchased a 1999 SG Special in the extra rare, ebony stain. It looks black in the picture but the color is actually brown.
I removed the old 300k pots and junk caps and installed CTS 500k pots and orange drop caps. The pots were the ones offered by AllParts, and apparently had something like a 10-15% taper. I have since removed them and installed CTS Vintage Taper pots and Vitamin T caps from Mojotone. This is my first electric and my first attempt at modding anything.
Oh, and where most SG Specials are more than one piece of wood...I lucked out and got a single piece body. This doesn't REALLY matter but I like the guitar just a little bit more because of it.
