No freaking way did he do this. I taught lessons for a music store that actually had a decent tech, had Dan Erlewine do some work for me (refret on a '76 Stratocaster hardtail natural and replacing the poorly amateurish replaced neck block on my EA 260 Rivoli), and have never heard of someone doing this.
The only oil he's using is snake oil, and the only one getting soaked is you.
