Hi Tom...
Guitar life is full of compromises.
When it comes to my hands, I'll gladly shave a touch off the tone side to bring the tension on hands to a level I can play longer and enjoy my guitars.
One of my guitars thrives on .011 (Custom light) whereas the others do fine with .012. A good setup also goes a long ways toward keeping the action low, and the enjoyment high.
