I think you are getting the idea but I'll add my two cents. I'd also say save up and go for a Yamaha. They seem to be consistently good guitars. Even the all laminate one you commonly find sounds pretty darn good. None of the cheap Epiphones I've played had any kind of tone or volume. The Squier acoustics I've handled have that old school cheapness to it them that most manufactures have banished. It wouldn't be any better than what you have now.
