I learned Sonar by reading the comments in the Cakewalk forum, lots of great advice there, plus you can ask whatever you want, the people there are very helpful. Reading Scott Garrigus's Sonar Power books help a lot too. Well worth the money for great reference books.
I now have Sonar Platinum and it's a fabulous program.
