I've never been a fan of quilted mahogany. I just don't like the "bubbly" blister look of it and find it distracting.
But I am a sucker for a nice pinstripe or traditional flamed mahogany. I think it's a lot classier.
"The Tree" seems to be coming back into topic as wood is back on the market from private stashes.
I saw that allied lutherie was selling sets for $1500 a pop. I wouldn't be interested in having a guitar built with it for 1/2 that cost. It's just not me.
But I guess I'm in the minority and folks still go crazy over the tree.....or any wood that resembles it.
I'd much rather see it made into a table or put on a somebody's yacht instead
