I have JJB Prestige 330's installed in 3 of my guitars. I highly recommend. Great sound. You could try a JJB without an external preamp if your going straight into an amplifier but having one is better. If you want to go on the cheap there also, a Behringer ADI 21 would work well.
EDIT. I see you already have a preamp. Give it a try.
