Not to got too far off-topic, but one of the things Bob said reminded me of something I say as a recording engineer: "If you want to become good at being a recording engineer, you need to figure out how to get someone else to pay you to learn to be good at recording engineering." Of course, like any other profession, you need to do it every day, good or bad.
