NGD -- Emerald X7 Woody
During the recent Phoenix Carbonfest, Alice got to try both of the X7's that were there. She has been very happy with her CA Cargo for several years now, but the X7 just "spoke" to her. When she saw an X7 Bubinga Woody in stock on the Emerald web site, it was an agonizing overnight (for her) and we “added to cart” early the next morning. It arrived on Monday afternoon, six days en route. As usual, it was a smooth and flawless transaction with Sean at Emerald. A big thanks to Sean and Alistair.
She loves this guitar. It is so pretty and sounds a bit mellower than the Cargo, and fits her almost perfectly. The 24" scale is a little more comfortable for my big paws, but does not present any issues for her. It is definitely an upgrade, like moving to up a Cadillac from a Chevrolet. Don't get me wrong -- both are very nice little guitars. But X7 has the edge in terms of warm tone and easy ergonomics, and superb aesthetics. X7 is not quite as bassy and loud as the X20, but the tone is rather similar and not at all bad for a 3/4 sized guitar. Tonally the Cargo has a little more projection, while the X7 is warmer and a bit quieter. The difference would be something like a spruce GS Mini versus a mahogany-topped version. I’m going to depend on the kindness of others to post photos here. That is still an insurmountable obstacle for me. |
Don't make me have to DEMAND photos!! I will if I have to!!
Oh and nice buy indeed. |

Kramster, I'll email them directly to you, and you can post them if you want. No need to shout.....
For those of you who say, "Pics or it didn't happen" -- well then maybe it didn't. That is why I've generally been reluctant to share NDG posts here. But I can assure you that it is sitting safely in my living room right now......under armed guard. |
From my (decidedly unpopular) perspective, an NGD should include a video of the person who purchased the guitar, playing it. Somehow, we talk a lot about guitars, post pictures of guitars, but don't seem to get around to really playing them here. Often, when a guitar is demo'ed, it is with a few strums rather than playing a recognizable song all the way through so we can really hear what it can do. In a video, we can demonstrate how the guitar sounds in our hands, explain why it appeals to our particular needs, and give other folks a better idea of what the guitar can provide musically.
A video uploaded to youtube can easily be posted here, probably with less hassle than having to find a photo site that still allows hosting without paying a bunch of money. Tony |
Congratulations!

That’s really nice, Earl and Alice. Although you’ve said the wood is bubinga, it kinda has a maple thing going on too. Pretty cool!

I suspect that these Emerald guitars are such that, while the photos make them look compelling, they probably don't adequately capture how they really are when you are holding one. I would bet they are fine guitars all around.
Nice purchase... Tony |
Oh yeh! My X7-OSN, nylon strung electric guitar is magnificent! The woodsy are priceless.

Beautiful X7 Earl and Alice. Congrats ! I've had one for about a year and had never been able to hear what it sounds like from the front until last week when a friend was playing it. It sounded wonderful ! Much better than from the playing position. Enjoy...
I think my Cargo is a bit warmer than the X7 though, must be a string difference??? |
My congratulations to Earl and Alice! One of my best buddies has a Bubinga Woody X7 and it's absolutely gorgeous! :guitar:
