Help choosing a 12-fret 000

I'm looking to diversify a little bit and am very interested in a 12-fret 000 or smaller. I would prefer a nut width of 1 13/16" or greater. Price is also a major issue, as I would prefer not to spend a lot on what will be a couch/classroom guitar (this eliminates the 000-28VS).

I am intrigued by the new Schoenberg Recording Kings, but don't have a dealer close by to try one. Anything else I should consider?

Thanks!

I had an RK RS626 a while back that I wish I'd never let go of (for that travel/kickaround purpose) It was a nice little guitar for the money I had into it used....hard to beat. Other option may be a Blueridge 341 or 361 Parlor...

Here's my post on my new Recording King ROS-06. 12 fret, 000, scalloped braces, 1 13/16 nut, etc, etc, etc.......

These are soooo goooood, and soooooo cheaaaap it's a crime not to buy one, especially if you are looking for a pre-war type 12 fret.

I agree. I would get one of the Recording King 000's. You can't lose... Especially for the $.

the RK Ros-16, the Ros-06's bigger brother. Lovely.

Hi Adam,

The Schoenberg guitars are probably it if you are trying to avoid the cost of a 000-28VS. Good luck!

000-15S? Nice small guitar, big tone.

I tried out a 000-28VS yesterday. Man, that is one fine fingerpicker. I may have to part with my Taylor and D-35 to afford it, but it might just be worth it. What can I say? I'm weak.

I got a 000-15S before they discontinued it and it's a nice guitar but not in the same leauge as some of the others mentioned so far. In fact I only bought it beacause my first choice the OM-15 had just been discontinued and a wanted a 1-3/4" nut. If I were looking at 12frets today I would consider the Martin 000-28VS and even better the 00-28VS. Easy to find a good deal on one and they are fantastic guitars.

Hi AS,

I own a Martin 000-28VS and I can tell you, it is a very rich sounding guitar. The 1 13/16" nut width and mod-V neck is a challenge for me, but if you like that fat, wide neck, this may really be for you. Every once in a while these come up for sale; in fact, not too long ago we had one in our AGF classified section with a cutaway, which would be really nice considering the limiting 12-fret neck.

Good luck with this,
Glenn

I have huge hands, so the fat V suits me pretty well. If I saw one with the cutaway, I probably wouldn't hesitate. As it is, I'll probably stay patient and try to find a used one.

I appreciate your input!

Just an update...as you can tell from my signature, I pulled the trigger on a 000-28VS. Got it from Cotten Music in Nashville. Great guitar and great folks!

Congrats! Your initial post said that was out of your price range but sounds like you found the funds to get the guitar you really wanted.

Post some pics when you get a chance.

Funny thing about that....

When I decided to sell my Taylor, I thought 'downgrading' for a 000 that would rarely get played was the way to go. Then I realized I wanted a really good vintage-sounding guitar to split time with my Bourgeois. A couple weeks in, and I am happy as can be!

And the money....well, as they say....you can't take it with you.

Pictures soon!
