Yamaha FG-375S

Hi guys, checked out GC with a family member who's starting out on guitar and wanted to upgrade from an all-lammie guitar he had picked up a week before. Anyways, after trying out a bunch of guitars in and around the <$500 range we settled on a Big Baby Taylor, a Yamaha FG-375S and an all-solid Spruce/Hog Epiphone Masterbuilt that had been severely reduced from the $900 list price to about four bills.

Anyways, to make a long story short we all agreed that we liked the projection and bass of the epi but the Yamaha sounded exceedingly better to our ears as we played it. It's got a solid spruce top and laminated RW back and sides and very cool sunburst but the tone was what sold us. It was warm, with just the right amount of projection w/o being overpowering making it really great for singing. We were still wavering back and forth between the masterbilt and the Yamaha and the GC salesperson even was kind enough to put on some new elixirs for us on the masterbilt but the yamaha won out everytime.

Anyways, just wanted to give everybody a heads-up on a great find! Also, we played the new model they took out for us after we had bought the floor model and it didnt sound as good as the one we had bought. I guess that goes to show that it pays to play first.

Some of them Yamaha's are hard to beat, I think they get over looked too often.

I picked a FG-365S off a guy this summer, he bought it new in 1980 or 81 he said. It has become my main giging guitar this fall and now winter.
Solid top and a very nice three peice back, plays like butter.
I plan to keep it the rest of my life.

Good score, we should all shop for guitars with our ears open and blindfolded.

Thanks, yeah I'm happy for my cousin's husband (the one that picked up the guitar). I've always heard that rosewood guitars favored a more warm tone and mahogany a more clear and fundamental tone, but imo, the rosewoods i've always came across sounded a little too bright for my tastes and had too many overtones while the mahogany always seemed warmer to me. This Yamaha just had a great sound. I told him if he ever decided to sell it i'd love first dibs!

Great Score! FG375s's were from 77-81. Great sounding, I've played a few. Nope, don't have one, yet ;)

I don't know about that. I've been playing Yamahas
for almost a year, and I've only got 7 :)

I've been really impressed with both my FG's. I think you'd need to spend at least twice as much before you'll find a better guitar. They're really well made and sound great too. I got a 12 string version too as I liked the 6 so much!

I had a FG-375S about 2 years ago and loved it! And was lucky enough to get another FG-375S on eBay a week ago. And very happy of getting another in my stable! :guitar:
