Bone Saddle
 

I want to upgrade my Yamaha FG730s with a bond saddle. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I should get one?

I got a bone saddle and bridge pins from Bob Colosi, got the guitar back today and it sounds great, much better than before. I play a Seagull S6.

Bob is universally recommended here. Can't go wrong with Bob.

Have another option, if you happen to live near Green Bay, WI. I had a bone nut and saddle made and installed on my Taylor 422K by Tony at Luthiers Workshop in GB. He was employee #4 at Taylor, knows his stuff. The 422K sounds even better now!

Can any authorized martin repair person do this?

I installed one on my FG730s. Improved the tone and sustain. The saddle comes with instructions. If you can handle sandpaper and are patient you can do this yourself. Use the old one as a template and remove as much material as needed for height adjustment. Go slow and keep the bottom flat and you will be fine.

Another vote for Bob. No brainer, really.

As far as the DIY approach, I agree with GHS. I'd like to underscore SLOW. If you're gonna DIY, purchase 2 because you'll ruin the 1st by not going SLOW :)

As far as I know, you can only get Bond saddles from me....;)

Yep Blues, another "go with Bob" nod. Sorry if that seems boring but I've talked with him on the phone with concerns about fitting my Breedlove with a bone saddle that was not listed on his site. Got the product, did it myself, the guitar sounds way better that it did before- it's the single most important thing you can do to significantly change the tone of a guitar other than change strings to new set or new guage. I highly recommend Colosi's product.

Definitely yes. The person who works on my guitars is an authorized Martin repair center.

I had to laugh when I took my new FG700s in for a setup and I also got him to install a bone saddle(his blank). Cost was around $100 for labour and parts....guitar only cost $200 LOL.

BTW bone saddle and setup were worth every penny...guitar plays super easy and sounds nice.
