Help me find heel cap material

Small crack in heel of my d15 m. I am considering filling the strap pin hole and adding a heel cap. Where can I buy wood For heel caps In the uk ?

I would take it to my luthier and have one made and installed.

If you are going to do it yourself, pm me with your address and I'll mail you a piece of mahogany big enough for a couple heel caps.

AJ Ray 07-17-2017 07:19 AM

hi brad. That's kind but I'm in the uk. Wouldn't that be a pain?

BradHall 07-17-2017 07:01 PM

AJ, yes, a minor pain. Try contacting a local builder first. Still, if you need the help my offer stands. I'm guessing a couple dollars to mail the small lightweight pieces of mahogany. No problem and I'll gladly cover the postage to help you out.

Heck if you want to upgrade it to rosewood let me know and I'll stick a veneer in an envelope and it will be in your letterbox in no time :D

Check for any furniture makers or restorers in your area. They'll have plenty of hog scraps.

Ooops, oh yeah.

Interesting point though and I don't keep up with this stuff for the most part but, it's not an actual sale so I wonder if that makes a difference. We'd be talking a one inch square of East Indian.
