Goodman Guitars build thread
I have 3 guitars going towards finish simultaneously.
I process wood (backs and tops) in larger batches (resaw, join, thickness cut out shapes) then do a batch of 3 or 4 . This batch is a 25.4" sale 14 fret triple 0 in birdseye maple with an engelmann top and koa appointments , a 24.9" scale 12 fret triple 0 with curly Honduran mahogany and a Lutz top and Indian rosewood appointments, a 16" archtop with quilted maple and a Sitka spruce top with koa appointments. Here is how I join the top and back. Old school-works great. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...&1459012751452 Bracing the top in the go-bar deck. I simply use an overhanging shelf where I store guitar parts as the top to the go-bar deck and my workbench is the bottom. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...F3470137F9.jpg this is the 12 fret triple 0 http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...58324AF409.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...129CB25CF5.jpg |

Looks great! Thanks for sharing, you do really beautiful work! How may guitars a year do you typically make?
I have some of your go bars that I use to help me find my driveway in the winter, I love it!!! ;) |

Yes, they are driveway stakes I get from home depot. I average about 6 instruments a year. |

Yes, it is one of my favorites. |
So now onto the necks:
On the maple guitar I am using a koa center strip. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...91225B7A3E.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...AFE988C693.jpg In the next step, I joint the top of the neck and true up the 14 degree head angle. I use my 1899 S.A. Woods 12" jointer to acomplish this task. This tool has the nickname "The Aircraft Carrier" It has a 7' bed http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...13EC91E2A9.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...F3C3A15505.jpg Next I use the table saw to cut the slot for the truss rod http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...26D25B7BAD.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...A930FE7C15.jpg |
That bird's eye maple is pretty!
|
Brad,

the necks continue:
cutting the dovetails... http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...FF8AD9A8F7.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...EDEBC86512.jpg http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...63708E8E81.jpg tapering and thicknessing the neck on the pin router http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...BCE1709D96.jpg this is a great tool. There is a foot operated lever at the bottom that elavates the table. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...2807EA03B0.jpg cleaning up the heel on the spindle sander. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...24EA941124.jpg here I am thicknessing the head with the bandsaw. http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...B2F61B9980.jpg The big saw known as the "Laguna Monster" http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...9289891CE2.jpg Gluing "ears" on the maple neck http://i1199.photobucket.com/albums/...33F4E5E85C.jpg |
