Goodman Guitars build thread

I have 3 guitars going towards finish simultaneously.

I process wood (backs and tops) in larger batches (resaw, join, thickness cut out shapes) then do a batch of 3 or 4 .

This batch is a 25.4" sale 14 fret triple 0 in birdseye maple with an engelmann top and koa appointments ,

a 24.9" scale 12 fret triple 0 with curly Honduran mahogany and a Lutz top and Indian rosewood appointments,

a 16" archtop with quilted maple and a Sitka spruce top with koa appointments.

Here is how I join the top and back. Old school-works great.

Bracing the top in the go-bar deck. I simply use an overhanging shelf where I store guitar parts as the top to the go-bar deck and my workbench is the bottom.

this is the 12 fret triple 0

Now we are getting somewhere, both bodies done except for cutting the dovetail mortice.

Looks great! Thanks for sharing, you do really beautiful work! How may guitars a year do you typically make?

I have some of your go bars that I use to help me find my driveway in the winter, I love it!!! ;)

Thanks,

Yes, they are driveway stakes I get from home depot.

I average about 6 instruments a year.

Yes, it is one of my favorites.

So now onto the necks:

On the maple guitar I am using a koa center strip.

In the next step, I joint the top of the neck and true up the 14 degree head angle. I use my 1899 S.A. Woods 12" jointer to acomplish this task.
This tool has the nickname "The Aircraft Carrier" It has a 7' bed

Next I use the table saw to cut the slot for the truss rod

Yes, it has been a great machine. The guy who I bought it from had the beds remachined, so they are nice and true.

Yes it is. I have always been a big fan of birdseye maple, but it seems to have limited appeal to the masses.

That's a shame. I especially like bird's eye maple necks on electric guitars.
