truss rod adjustment question
I got the action of my Art & Lutherie lowered the other day and now the 3rd string is buzzing against the first fret. None of the other strings buzz. The tech said he set the action at a "midrange" height. Is this a problem with the guitar, or is it just the nature of the 3rd string to be the most difficult, since it's the thinnest coiled string?

Could be a high fret. Could be the relief. Could be the action -- either the nut slot or saddle height.
If it's buzzing after the setup, take it back to have the tech correct the problem. If you want to be armed with some information, take a look at frets.com for some setup tips. E.g.: http://www.frets.com/fretspages/luth...ef/relief.html |
The problem probably is not neck relief or the saddle height since the buzzing
is on the first fret. The guy who set up your guitar most likely filed the slot too deeply in the nut for the third string. Jim McCarthy |
