Original tune "The Elder Tree" on a Beneteau guitar

Firstly, would like to say thanks for viewing, it brings me a lot of satisfaction to share tunes and discover new music/approaches in this section of the AGF...this is a fingerstyle tune I wrote some time ago for an album called "The Sound That You Call Home" and its in standard tuning. Used a Rode NT5 and Audiotechnica 4033 into a QSC touch mix out to a Zoom Q8 for those wondering about the tech side of things. I was very happy with this combo and probably will use it for all videos in the near future!

When I was younger I used to spend a significant amount of my time at the creek behind the house where I grew up. There was a large, old, gnarled tree that hung over the water where you could dangle your feet just above the surface on calmer days, borrowing the solitude from the blue heron and turtles that lay on the logs. I would always go there when I wanted to get away from family or schoolwork and just be alone.

Fast forward to a few months after I'd moved out of that house - I came back to grab mail to discover the tree had been quietly removed by the new residents and I felt a myriad of different emotions. It's strange the way we get attached to things. A lot of my songwriting is derived from nostalgia and when I got back to my apartment I wrote this song in one sitting...a rare occurrence. I've been playing it a little differently than the take on my record "The Sound That You Call Home" so I figured it was time for an update.

This melody is an ode to the simpler things in life that can provide the warmest memories, whether or not we choose to acknowledge them. Thank you for viewing :)

Wow, very nice Dustin! I really enjoyed that! Lovely composition and wonderful playing! Very nice recording and video, too!

I have to wonder why someone would cut down a tree next to a stream...

Great job, Dustin!

That is one of my favorites on your CD, and I enjoyed watching how you play it.

BTW, I can now "ask Alexa" to play some Dustin Furlow and she does :) So congrats on that (I hope some of it trickles back to you!).

For anyone else with an Echo, she also knows Toby, Howard, Doug Young and I'm sure many more of our members. You may need to upgrade to Amazon Unlimited for some artists/songs, which I believe is another 4 bucks a month on top of a Prime membership if you purchase it directly from the device.

Really nice Dustin.

My NT-5 must be broken 'cause it doesn't sound like yours, lol.

I'm sure its fine! This recording actually had some EQ from the QSC TouchMix and had a large-diaphragm off to the side of the lower bout to provide some warmth as well. Every other video on my channel with the NT5 is just straight into the Zoom Q8 with no EQ and I think it still sounds mighty fine. I normally just point the NT5 between the sound hole and the 12th fret, at least for my Beneteau.

This was just superb, Dustin. Beautiful clean playing with fantastic and consistent base lines running through. Great treble and harmonic work in there too. Your playing is just amazing!
Congrats on another beauty.

Thanks buddy...I can’t help but think how it’d sound with that Legacy Model Frank listed... *le sigh* haha :)
