EVO Gold Fretwire Replacement for Taylor 414 CE
 

Hi all,

I am planning to do a re-fret of my Taylor 414CE and have heard a lot of good thing about EVO Fretwire and planning to use this on my Taylor.

I was looking for this in LMII

but cannot decide which one is going to fit on my Taylor. Have anyone in TGF done this and which type should fit Taylor Guitar.

No I won't.

A local luthier is going to do it for me. just that he doesn't have EVO fretwire. That's why planning to buy it from LMII and have it installed.

What I did was I called Taylor and asked to speak with someone in the service dept, one who refrets guitars. I spoke with a man there who was some sort of supervisor. I asked them what they used on their re-fret jobs.
He gave me a part# of Dunlop frets.

I then took that # and looked up its specs on the internet.

Then I found the evo wire that had very close specs to the Dunlop.
I ordered that wire and brought the wire and guitar to my luthier and "Wallah".....

If you dont mind my asking how much did it cost to have that done? I would love to replace mine with the same.

You probably will need the FWSS74......I want to refret my guitar later with evo gold . (on my grand audition model like yours) I wondering how many feet you would need to do a whole guitar.

would 4 feet even be enough? I might call and ask......

how much is your luthier charging you?

The FWSS74 you've quoted is stainless steel fretwire. I am looking at the Jescar Evo.

My local luthier say 4 feet should be enough and he is charging $30 for the installation. (that's in Jakarta though)

I bought 6' from the Jescar place in Jersey, that's the minimum length they sell and there was some left over....It was very inexpensive, about the price for a nice set of guitar strings (retail)......

I don't know what my luthier would have charged, since we traded..I fixed his heater, he did the fret job..., but I would assume two to three C notes.

opps my bad, I meant FW9666. I think the fretwire company should answer your question. They probably sold tons of fretwire for different companies.

just curious but do you need a fret job yet? or doing it just incase? maybe I'll do it too...

BTW....30 DOLLARS FOR INSTALLATION? FOR ALL THE FRETS? OR ONLY 3?

Btw whats the differences between evo old fretwires and Jascar?

Had a refret on my 410CE last year for $330 which included the fret wire. Not sure what the wire runs but I imagine it was a small percentage of the overall cost.

wires seem to cost less than 8 bucks. :D

$30 is for a full refret. i guess labor cost in my part of world is much cheaper.

I just did fret levelling on my Taylor but the fret still appear worn. as i am asking the luthier to build my first custom and I need good fret wire anyway, i' am thinking of buying the fretwire at the same time for my taylor to save postage.

it think evo gold and Jescar is the same fretwire. i might be wrong though.

I hope you find your answers. (I think I can get a airplane ticket and bring my taylor to your area and get it refreted, and it would be a lot cheaper than doing it in usa) crazyyyy

my custom cedar top, solid mahogany back and side with ebony bridge, fretboard and headstock. plus rosewood binding all over, wood inlayed rosette, soundport etc cost less than $1,000. just about to make my deposit. i'll make sure to share to build progress once the build is started.
