Epiphone 339 vs Sheraton
 

I'm the OP for the Epiphone Dot 335 thread. I've changed my mind on the 335 and am now leaning toward the 339 because of the smaller body size, and am also considering a Sheraton.

NOW, my question is: does the Sheraton have the same smaller body size as the 339? I"ve poured all over the specs and stuff on Sweetwater and can't find the answer.

Also, except for bling, what's the difference between the 339 and the Sheraton other than pickups and a 5-piece neck on the Sheraton?

Sheraton is the same size as the 335.

This...

I have a Casino (same size as 335 but hollow)which I love....
and I just got a 339 Ultra which I dig....

They perform different duties for me, the Casino gets used with the band
the 339 Ultra gets used solo.

Both are comfortable, the 339 a little bit more in size, the Casino a little bit more in weight.

I've got an Ultra 339 and it's a small (~14") body - essentially a semi for solidbody players who don't like the looks/vibe of the Blueshawk or LP hollow - that comes in on either side of the seven-pound mark...

The Sheraton is a 335-size - and weight (8-9 lbs.) - semi with upscale appointments...

Haven't had the chance to try any of the new Indonesian versions, but the older MIK Sheratons were a lot of guitar for the money; other than the pickups (Epiphone has really upped the ante in this department - the ones in my Ultra are every bit the equal of a first-run '80s Gibson '61 SG reissue I used to own) I'm less than impressed with the Chinese Sheratons - and if my MIC Ultra didn't sound so good (as well as being my only guitar with full-size humbudkers) I'd have ditched it long ago. BTW, if you're shopping for a semi/thinline in this price range I'd strongly recommend taking a long look at the MIK Gretsch Electromatic 5400/5600 Series instruments; I've been a Gretsch owner since 1964, bought a 5622T-CB last year, and while "That Great Gretsch Sound" is admittedly not for everybody you're not going to find a higher standard of QC for anything near the price - IME every bit a match (and sometimes the superior) for the '50s/60s Brooklyn originals as well as the far-more-costly Japanese-made Professional Series, and you'll probably be the only guy in your circle of friends who owns one... :guitar:

Not to make things harder but there is also the Casino "coupe" model from epiphone. The Casino Coupe is a 339 with p-90s. Very cool.

The sheraton II pro is more expensive but between the pickups and other upgrades, it's worth it. Hard to beat for a 335 size.

had an older MIK and also have a newer sheraton II Pro (purchased in the Fall 2015) Great guitars. The newer ones are quite a bit better hardware and electronics wise.

my previous one, the gold plating wore down almost instantly, pickups a bit muddy and to me some what lifeless. The newer ones, the pickups are very good and after almost 2 years, the gold plating is not wearing down.

the push / pull coil taps are a nice touch too.

Friend of mine has a 339 pro and he loves it.

Tuff choice, both are great guitars.

I don't have a lot of experience with the 339's, but like has been said, a Sheraton is a gussied up version of the 335 dot.

I love my MIK Sheraton. It did come upgraded with Duncan Antiquity pickups which was a really nice upgrade. I'm not sure if the 339 has the same neck as the dot , but the biggest different in the Sheraton and Dots I've played had been the neck. My Sheraton's neck is a dream to play, but a lot of the Dots I've tried have rough feelings my necks and they feel thicker to me. I think the necks on the Dot are unbound as well. I'm sure the newer Sheratons are nice, but you can't go wrong with MIK Sheratons.

The smaller size on the 339 seems nice, and I've heard they have nice pickups.

Legendarily John Lee Hooker said he played a Sheraton because it was an "outdid 335".

I will no doubt someday own because I am a HUGE John Lee Hooker fan. Huge... In a previous post this is one of the guitars (along with the recently discontinued Gretsch 3 pickup center-block model) that I was referring to when I said there were better semi-hollows than the 335 Dot.

That's the Gretsch 5622T-CB - I own a Rosa Red version - and I'd put it up against any RPO factory-made semi on the market for QC/playability...

I own an Epi es-339 and it is a great guitar for the money. I used to own a Gibson es-335, and it also was a great guitar, but a little too big and bulky for my tastes - also heavier. And I never got used to having the jack on the top of the guitar. As a bonus, the es-339 has push-pull pots for switching between humbucker and single coil, which I have found to work pretty well for different sounds.

For a smaller body you have these choices:

Casino Coupe = hollow + P-90 + trapeze tail
Wildkat Studio = hollow + P-90 + stop bar tail
ES 339 = semi-hollow with either HB or P-90 + stop bar tail
