Lord i'm standin' at the crossroad, babe, i believe i'm sinkin' down

tell me how this describes meeting the devil for a deal

I should have said that the song doesn't literally reference selling his soul to the Devil, but the legend and the song have become intertwined over time.

You can also interpret the song metaphorically as a crossroads representing a choice of taking one path or another and the tone of the song is quite dark and the line "I believe I'm sinkin' down ", could be interpreted as making a bad choice.
Also, "Asked the Lord above have mercy, save poor Bob, if you please.", could also be interpreted as asking forgivness for the choices he has made.
