New Vocal/Acoustic Guitar multieffect - Boss VE-8

It looks like we'll have an interesting competitor of the TC Helicon PlayAcoustic - Boss VE-8.
It's a vocal harmonizer and acoustic guitar effects with another attempt to fight the "piezo quack".
Boss calls its technology the Acoustic Resonance and judging from the promotional video it doesn't completely remove the characteristic sound of piezo pickup but the guitar sounds not bad at all.
Another handy feature might be using the processor as a USB audio interface or a looper.

No guitar EQ, does Play Acoustic have EQ?

The sample video sounded terrible when the harmonies kicked in!

While I try to refrain from being a negative Nancy, I'm not very impressed with this demo. Considering the alternative from TE Electronics, I would say this unit sounds somewhat amateurish. If the price is significantly less, I could see there being a market for it.

Sounded pretty quacky to me :(

The PlayAcoustic has a parametric EQ, so does VE-8,
at least that's what it says on the BOSS website "a three-band parametric EQ with low-cut filter". But I wonder how you access the EQ.

The BOSS unit is available for preorder on some British online retailers and it's priced at £269 and the PlayAcoustic costs £209. So it's not going to be cheap.

Not impressed by the harmonics.

The demo by BOSS is pretty bad, this demo sounds a loot better to me.

from what i can tell it appears to be a one button looper which requires two taps to stop. is that true?

Nick84 08-02-2016 09:28 AM

Has anyone had hands on experience with on of these units yet?

Wow ... that was WAY better.

so it appears (though still not totally clear to me) that this is a one button looper meaning you have to push twice to stop the loop?

I would attribute the improvement to the Taylor ES2 system. The other UST demos of the Boss resonance were not impressive.

Hi Nick88,
I have and use the TC Helicon Play Acoustic. What would you like to know?

CASD57 08-03-2016 07:22 AM

I could be wrong.....
But as far as I can see...
The TC-Helicon doesn't have pitch correction
The Boss does
For guitar amp...
The TC only has XLR outs....which wouldn't be a problem for most people but it is for me...
The Boss has both...and 1/4 L-R stereo outs..

So I'm leaning more to the Boss side..unless I'm corrected on these two features..
