What goes round...........
So,as I have mentioned before, I organise an acoustic guitar group here in a local bar which met last Sunday as usual.
As we were finishing, the bar tender was clearing the glasses and mentioned he had just started lessons on guitar and wanted to progress but, unfortunately only had an electric which had been a present to him on his 13th birthday.
He really wants to progress on acoustic. He had calculated that, if he did without other things, he would be able to buy an entry level acoustic out of the next tranche of his student loan. He was doing bar work to supplement his studies.
This got me thinking. 30 years ago, a guy retiring from where I worked came in with an acoustic guitar case and, without ceremony, placed it on my desk. He said that arthritis had bought his guitar playing to an end and he wanted to hand on his Takamine Dual semi acoustic to me because he (rightly) knew it would be cherished.
Today, years later, I removed the guitar in its case from under the stairs where it has been for the last three years, restrung it, and walked it round to the bar where I knew the lad was working. It now has a new home.
More battered than when I was given it all those years ago, I have to say, with a new set of strings it has mellowed into one fine sounding guitar. We have been through a lot together and I was surprised at the depth of feeling I experienced as I left it behind when I left.
However, I know it was the right thing to do. Due to my current style of guitar playing, it was being sadly neglected and deserved better.
I just wish I was able to tell the good man who passed it on to me all those years ago the huge joy it has bought me and now how it has been passed on to a new gerenation.
Er, that's it, posting this for no other reason than I thought I would share this with you all.
