This is one extremely rare and very nice Lowden. The wood combo is what makes it all happen. The Koa/Redwood combination gives strong clear tone across all ranges. But the one thing that drew me to this one was the clear powerful bass balanced with the highs. So for really any type of playing, except very hard strumming, this guitar will shine. Its a year old and in 9.9/10 condition. The Redwood grain is straight and tight as it ought to be. Then there is the Koa back and sides. Wow! Its sure nice to look at as this is a very rare set of matched flamed Koa hand selected by George Lowden himself. Fretboard is ebony as is the front and back of the headstock making for a striking appearance all the way to the top.
I cannot find a scratch on this and there has been no repairs nor none needed. The neck is straight and was just given a thorough look over by a very top notch local luthier who works for another custom guitar shop. His words were, "This sure has a big sound with snappy clear tone". I agree.
It has a LR Baggs Element on board but it is passive so requires a preamp. There are no controls on the guitar. It also has a clear pickguard from the factory as standard. Of course it has a Hiscox top of the line hard shell case to protect this beauty.
Non smoking home. Always humidified.

Specs:
Redwood custom top
AAAA Figured Koa back and sides
Figured maple binding
Ebony fretboard with Maple purfling
Mahogany and Rosewood 5-piece neck
Abalone and Rosewood rosette
Striped Rosewood bridge
Walnut wedge
Ebony front and back headstock overlay
Gotoh 510 Gold tuners with Ebony buttons
Bone nut and split saddle
1 3/4″ nut width
25 1/2″ scale length
15 7/8″ lower bout
4 3/4″ body depth
Clear Pickguard
Custom knobs on tuners. Originals in case.
LR Baggs Element undersaddle pickup w/out preamp
Deluxe Hiscox hardshell black case

This is rare and very hard to come across a guitar of this caliber in appearance, tone, playability and build.

Beautiful. GLWS.

Yes, this one is so beautiful. It plays and sounds just as good as it looks. It gushes tone when picked or strummed.

Gorgeous!

What year is she? (Sorry if you posted this, I play guitar and work any kind of repair, better than I read!)

What is the serial number please?
I'm asking this for one reason: since the beginning of 2011, the 35 series do not feature this kind of back binding and center stripe anymore. It's only made on the 50 series and yours is definitely a 35.
Hence, to my eyes, this guitar should be more than one year old, according to this (very nice) feature...

Glad to give the serial no.

Let me know what you find and the source of your info. Thanks.

IMHO, with such a serial number, your guitar should be a 2010 / 2011model.

The guys at Lowdens could be more accurate than me but, in my own records, there's a #17036 built on August, 18 and a #17079 built on September, 28. Both 2010 of course.
That's why I assume you guitar was built in September 2010 which is consistent with the luxurious cosmetic features on the back and sides ;)

There are some oddities in the numbers though (i.e. a few 16xxx built in 2011) because some guitars seem to stay on the benches longer than others... So the best would be to check with Lowden. They do not answer mails very quickly, but you may phone them or try to reach Alastair Simpson or Johnny Lowden via Facebook or Instagram. Both are very helpful. GLWS :)

Bump this up. A 9.9 nearly mint Lowden F-35 but with AAAA Koa AND Stunning Redwood. Not a mark on it.

Is this "sinker" redwood? Do you know the difference, tonally, and looks? Beautiful guitar.

hotroad 01-04-2018 10:53 PM

Not sinker Redwood. But very straight, clean and beautiful. Looks very Redwood like. Back is quite a bookmatched pair of stunning Hawaiian Koa.
