More evidence of Taylor's announcement being about bracing?

Today Taylor published another article discussing bracing.

Do you think this is more evidence that the big Taylor announcement is about a change to bracing or unrelated?

Could be. We know that Andy Powers likes to tinker with bracing to maximize the tone of a particular wood....

I wonder when the day will be when we can get configurable bracing. Any guesses as to their new innovation?

Stringless acoustic guitar with 88 keys and tremolo

I smile about all the pre-trade show speculation. A lot of Taylor, Martin, Gibson and only a little bit less Fender have so much tribal brand loyalty that I think I they could be sold hammers called "El Slammo" at a premium price if they had the right logo.

I think of when (maybe still do??) silly people where arguing that cutting strings short before winding them on was the "Taylor method". Guitars are a mature product so I think it's hard to have big steps or changes at this point.

Still, I wish Taylor and others success. I really like the firms that still have founders and hands on owners or leaders the way few guitar makers do.

I had a thought that this might be a fan-fret offering...

Some sort of environment friendly guitar. Carbon fiber , wood substitute?

TDavis 01-20-2018 09:20 AM

Seems like Martin is trying to be more like a Taylor (neck/playability) and Taylor is trying to be more like a Martin (bracing/tonewoods/nut width).

I asked Bob about carbon guitars ten years ago and he didn't seem excited about the idea. Course that was ten years ago. Today several other big names are looking in to non wood guitars, so who knows..

Nothing is more "environmentally friendly" than sustainable woods. Consider that most synthetic substitutes are petroleum based and required a good deal more energy to produce, and then turn into a guitar.

Montesdad 01-20-2018 09:43 AM

Not sure there's enough sustainable woods interest or aficionados to help sustain the bottom line for the guitar makers.

However, at the right price point, pretty much anything will sell - - - a very careful balance there
