Budget squareneck/weissenborn

Interested in playing this...
But I don't want to spend much money on a secondary instrument.
Can a gretsch g9210 or a cheap solid hog weissenborn sound anything like this?

If you have a beater or not too precious flattop you can always get a nut extender for a few bucks and try it out with that. If it takes then maybe look into a weissenborn or squareneck. Kelly Joe Phelps used it a lot a while back.

Recently acquired A 40's Oahu squareneck for about $225. Pretty darn good slider, and often available.

Budget off shore Weissenborns in the $4-500 range (Goldtone, Twisted Wood et al) will usually be all laminated or maybe solid top. I started out being patient and fell into a couple used axes (Lazy River and Celtic Cross), then I horse traded over a couple years till I got the ones I liked.

Some 50/60's Harmony guitars make good sliders. They often have no truss rods - meaning by now their action is high. The H165 is solid hog and killer under a slide. Good luck. It's addictive!
