NGD! Yamaha FG-280
Hello all,
I found this FG-280 Yamaha on Kijiji. I went to see it thinking that it would need the typical neck reset but was surprised to find that it is OK. .095 on the twelve fret low E and .070 on the treble E. It sounds amazing. It is a green label made in Japan. I searched the Yamaha database that gave me some info. This model made from 72-74 this one is a 73 with spruce top and rosewood sides and back. Does anyone else have one? I read that it was not imported to North America. Such a lovely guitar. |
I have a Yamaha FG-280 that I bought new in the 1970s (made in Taiwan). It has needed a neck reset since the early 1980s and is very hard on the fingers to play. I went away from guitar playing until late last year. The Yamaha has now been replaced for my daily playing by a 10 yr. old Norman. Much easier on the fingers :).

I have a "Snakehead" Yamaha FG 200 that needs a neck reset. I traded a $125 amp and $50 for it 8 years ago. So it's a $150 guitar and it needs a $400 neck reset and I'm probably going to do it.
I already put a Baggs Anthem SL in it. The guitar just sounds great. People are kind of amazed by this laminated old imported guitar. I got a new Taylor but I can't get rid of the Yamaha. The official excuse is, well, I might play out and need a spare. They're just wonderful instruments. And with 13s on it, it does make everything else seem easier to play. |

Kevin,
Congratulations on that new Yamaha. - Glenn |
Now I know what people on this board are talking about when they marvel over the sound of these old FGs. It has a very unique sound unlike any of my other guitars.

Hi Kevin,
You scored a fine guitar. Any chance of some pictures? Congrats--and enjoy! |
I have a FG-280 with reddish label japan- looking for some replacement Nickel tuners?
|
I have one of these (picked it up at local guitar shop for $400). Neck is in great shape and the sound of the laminated woods is excellent, reminiscent of a Martin.
