Stotzem-With or Without You: help

Anyone tried playing this? MMMAAK?

I was looking for tips on how to do those harmonics at the beginning. What fingers do you use on the fretboard? Any tips on speeding up? I know to start out slow, but I bet I'm not doing them the easiest way. It's such a great arrangement.

I just checked out a video of it and it's pretty straight forward. Tune to DADGAD. Harmonics are on the 3rd and 4th strings, seventh fret. Pretty much just lay your finger (I would use index finger and then little finger where required) lightly on those strings and go.

Hey Rick,

I tried using my index and middle finger, alternating them. It's too slow but that's probably just cuz I'm slow as molasses :). The tuning is in drop D. I think that's one of the coolest openings to a fingerstyle song I've heard yet.

Oops right, dropped D. I was already in DADGAD and took too quick a look at the video. As far as fingering I was referring to the left hand. It should not take you long.

Try some different combinations and see what works best for you.

Personally, I treat it as a little finger exercise in harmonics so
(1) I play the harmonics with as many different fingers as possible.
(2) I don't "bar" both strings at once, but play the harmonics one at a time. It's good practice, and I think they ring better that way.

So, certainly not the best or most efficient solution, but it makes things fun ;)

with or without you

I had my best luck using my index finger for the first part then using my thumb for the 7th fret position.

making the transition to the 9th fret, i keep my index fingers on the lower strings and use my ring finger on the 9th.

the trick is when switching to the 3 5 5 position, i go to a normal fingering like i would for a bar chord and then back to the beginning with the thumb wrap.

i found if you use your thumb you'll have much better success.

curious to hear how it goes for you!
