Can't record anymore after a windows 10 update - help pls :o it's driving me nuts :|

Hiya!

I could record and use my DAW right before the update. And now - all of a sudden - I can't ;(

I use a ROLAND UA-22 DUO-CAPTURE EX through SONAR X3 producer edition.

While starting up SONAR it says: the following drivers either do not support the current audio format, or are in use by another application.

Please choose whether you want to disable them or use them anyway.

And then it shows: OUT(DUO-capture EX)
IN(DUO-capture EX)

---------------------------

I can use my interface while listening to music on YT etc so it's not the interface perse. It's the combination. Apparently there is some program on the background 'using' the sound SONAR needs(does that make sense? lol).

Would it be helpful to make a print screen of my systray?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Couldn't say but check with Sonar or their forum. Also https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Kno...-Compatibility

Thanks for your reply.

I've posted on that forum as well; http://forum.cakewalk.com/Roland-DUO...-m3629988.aspx

They say it's probably something running in the background, but I cant seem to find what it is =|

Is there a way I can post this thread somewhere on the frontpage of this site or something so everyone sees it(someone is bound to know what's going on, I guess :P) and I can get back to recording again? =P :$

Some things to try:

Check what's in startup (run "msconfig").

Check what's apps and services are running in Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

Try restarting computer and running Sonar X3 prior to running any other app.

Re-install Sonar X3.

Update to a newer Sonar DAW program.

That are some handy tips. I guess I have to de-activate every process seperately and try if it works, haha.

msconfig shows a load of processes running in the background :o

Lot's of work ahead.. ;)

Thanks for giving a helping hand!

You might want to try making a new user profile that is completely barebones (no internet, no anti virus, no running processes beyond the basic Microsoft requirements to get the computer working).

You can set that up as running your DAw as the native soundcard.

SONAR is the only program that I paid a LOT of money for ($175) and could NEVER get it to run on either of my PCs. Tech assistance was no help, so I ended up eating the cost and vowing to NEVER use Cakewalk / SONAR again.

Reaper (as well as a few othe DAWs work fine for me.

Sounds like a driver issue - download & install the latest drivers, even if you think you have the latest.

I would do the following.

1. Do a cold boot. (Power off, not just a restart) if that doesn't work then

2 Update drivers. If still problem then
(Also check compatible issues)

3 uninstall, reinstall and update drivers.

If this doesn't work then scream.

Solved!

@Rick-slo; the msconfig did it! I had to disable 'windows audio'.

\o/

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Great, at least you are zeroing in on the problem. However disabling windows audio prevents windows audio programs from running.

Try re-enabling windows audio and then right click speaker icon on task bar.

1. click sounds and then select "no sounds" on windows sounds.
See if that works.
If not
2. click playback devices and disable devices you don't need (do same for
recording devices.

See if that does it.

You could also play around with letting programs take exclusive control of audio.

As mentioned by others make sure you have the latest drivers for your
ROLAND UA-22 DUO-CAPTURE EX.

I cheered a little bit to early.. I de-activated lots of things and I thought windows audio made the most sense and after activating the rest again it doesn't work anymore - ugh ;)

I can't find the 'no windows sound'. I'm able to turn on/off specific sounds like the start up sound etc.

And how do I let SONAR take exclusive control of the ROLAND? I can only do that with programs making use of the windows sound.

Thanks in advance!

I am a Mac guy so in just the most general terms. So it sounds like you are saying when you had all those other things de-activated and "windows sound" you did get Sonar to work, correct ?

If so then from a general diagnostic method standpoint just replicate that all deactivated again, then start reactivating the other things one at a time and testing until you can determine which of the other things is causing the problem

But you might also contact Sonar support and make sure the Drivers you have installed and the routing and selection are the correct up to date ones for you particular interface ,computer , and OS combination.

rick-slo 07-15-2017 08:43 AM

Actually good thing Windows sound it not the issue.
Like KeyWind said go back and deactivate one thing at a time (sound related items and programs anyway) and zero if. If you find deactivating a particular thing does it and it's something you don't need then great.

bickb 07-15-2017 01:33 PM

Ok....... Been at it all day, haha.

But I think(!!!) I have it now.

Reinstalled all my drivers and tried activating and deactivating everything - nothing.

Upgraded my DAW to the latest version - nothing.

Apparently it was my extremely outdated version of windows 10 ;). There were lots and I mean LOTS of updates awaiting me, haha. I thought it updated automatically.. Apparently not :D:);)

Oh, well. My new DAW looks better than the previous one. Atleast I got something out of it! :D

Haha.

I love working my way out of trouble! :D

Thanks everyone and hopefully I won't have to visit this part of the forum for a while :P:P.
