NGD: Last Emerald X5

Hello, I'm new to AGF. Here is a video of me playing a Bach piece on my Emerald X5. I was told that I received the last X5 produced. I also received an Amicus and X20. I will post video or pics of them later.

That's some lovely picking there Robert. WELCOME TO THE FORUM !

Nice to hear someone showcasing these great instruments properly.

I can almost do a bit of Smoke on the Water on my green X7 . :)

String King;

You are indeed! Marvelous play on a marvelous instrument. Thank you for sharing this.

String King 01-06-2017 07:21 PM

Thanks.

Thanks guys, you're funny. I'm going to be producing several videos with my Emerald guitars in 2017. I simply asked them to send a shirt for the footage and Sean kindly sent one. He was extremely helpful through the entire process of receiving my Emeralds. He always responds quickly. Now, am I missing something? Why can't I attach a photo to this thread. I'm trying to post pictures from my desktop and it asks for a url. Do I have to link to some other host to get my pics here?

You have to upload your pics to a hosting site like Photobucket and copy the URL from there.

I gotcha, thanks. I'm not used to this sort of forum site. I'll figure it out.

Sorry. No cigar yet.... There's detailed instructions somewhere in the user manual here, amongst all the "be nice" admonishments and so on ....

Long Jon 01-06-2017 09:33 PM

Congratulations ! Smoke'em if you got 'em !

They really are a lovely trio of emerald Emeralds !

Nice wallpaper and amps too. You've got quite a thing for green haven't you ?

String King 01-06-2017 10:07 PM

Ha, thanks. I do like green. I just couldn't make myself order a red or blue Emerald instrument. Must be the OCD in me. The wallpaper is really a fabric background that can be lit to any color I choose with the lights in my studio. I'll tell you what...you guys choose the backdrop color for my next video. I'm thinking I'll do some bluegrass next.

Howdy string king! That's some mighty fancy playing. I can see why you got the green. I got a blue X7 a couple weeks ago. It definitely doesn't sound like your green one.

I wouldn't want to suggest a backdrop color other than green if you're afflicted with OCD. Might throw you off. Just curious, how bad is this green compulsion you have? Is your house green? Car? Walls painted green? Like peas and broccoli best? How will you play bluegrass with a green guitar?

I'm with Long Jon. Not sure if I like him yet. This disdain for blue emeralds is slightly disturbing. :D

String King, since you can't always read the intent with a post, most everything I said here is in jest. Just thought I'd point that out since you're a newbie here with green guitars. :D

String King - thanks for the X5 video. I have an original version X5 woody and always felt they were capable of creating great music. You proved it. (The original version had a center hole vs offset.)

String King 01-07-2017 11:48 AM

Hilarious. I will say that yes I do love green, but the green obsession only extends to my Emerald Guitars. You can blame Alistair for naming his company Emerald. I have many guitars and only the Emeralds are green. In addition, I am certainly not saying I won't order more Emeralds of different colors. I'll just have to get through that little mental obstacle first. I also love peas and broccoli, but don't believe it's because they are green...perhaps that's exactly why. Hmmm. I will manage to somehow play bluegrass music on my green Emeralds. I'm tenacious.

String King 01-07-2017 12:35 PM

Thanks jkwrpc. They are really wonderful little guitars. The action on all 3 of my Emeralds was far too high for me. I simply ground down the saddles and they instantly became a joy to play. Of course a little studio "verb" never hurt an acoustic guitar either.

Beautiful!

Interestingly enough, I was recently made aware that the owner of that company (Emerald Guitars) is hiring someone to work in his shop. If you have some experience with tools and can do basic math, it may be a great opportunity to go live in Ireland and help build guitars.

I would in fact, love the opportunity to work at Emerald with Alistair and all his team. I'm sure I would be a good candidate for the position as well, but at 40 years of age I'm now too settled into my career and life for that kind of transition. However, I can still dream of it.

As an X-5 owner, I'm curious why they stopped making this model?

Emerald Guitars 01-13-2017 04:44 AM

Hi String_King,

Thank you so much for the mention, your three Emeralds look great together. We wish you lots of enjoyment with them!

Best wishes from all the team!

Sean

Hi island-texan,

The X5 was our original travel guitar which we first introduced back in 2006. It went through a number of changes over the years and has always been the instrument of choice for those looking for the most compact roadworthy instrument possible.

As we introduced the more popular X7 model it stepped heavily on the toes of the X5 as it was just a little bit bigger, but offers a much better playing experience both in feel and tone and features a truss rod. Now finally the X5 mould has reached the end of its useable life and we have taken the decision not replace it at this time and focus on the X7 as our core travel guitar.

Best Wishes

Sean
