"A Date Which Will Live in Infamy"
Dec. 7th, 1941. Seventy-six years ago. We will remember.
Today a Bronze Star will be awarded posthumously to a boatswain's mate who risked his life, and court martial, that day, to save the lives of the last six men off the USS Arizona. It will be the first-ever award ceremony at the Arizona Memorial. MORE. Bob |
Used to sit in awe listening to my dad and uncles tell stories about WWII, and my granddad, a small farmer born in the late 1890s, talking about driving a truck in Europe in WWI.
Lots of brave men and women served in some way in the most serious of wars. |
Thanks, Bob. I hadn't heard that story, glad you presented it.

2 of my uncles enlisted in the Marines the very next day as did so many .
Thank you one and all ! |
Thanks for posting, Bob.
I had the honor & privilege of knowing William R. "Bob" Dickie, who was a Chief Electrician's Mate aboard the U.S.S. West Virginia during the attack on Pearl Harbor and one of the fortunate ones to have survived the ship getting hit by 6 torpedoes and numerous aerial bombs, prior to sinking. "Never forget..." Played with a friend today. We did an attempt at e.e. cummings "plato told" with my music and then Doctor Clayton's "Pearl Harbor Blues."
No, we don't forget. |
Godbless the men from the greatest generation.
