Steel string guitars with at least 1-7/8 nut width
 

Hi all,

I’m looking to learn about all the steel string guitars - of all body shapes, price tags etc. - out there with at least 1-7/8" (48mm) nut width.

Just about any pre-war parlor. And some modern reproductions, like the Washburn parlors and Blueridge BR-341/361.

Add the Larrivee SD-50 and SD-60 to your list as well.

I have a Santa Cruz D-12 with a 1 7/8's Nut.

My National Style 1 tricone has a nut width of 1.825".

Takamine EAN30C. Nearly wanted one until I made up my mind and considered it too wide.

Our Lowden O25C was built with a 1 7/8" nut by the custom shop.

Martin 00-28VS. I believe its counterpart, the 0-28VS, also has a 1 and 7/8".

Epiphone Masterbilt AJ500M (at least mine had a 1 7/8 neck, there is one in the classified right now at a *very* good price)
Gitane D 500 (wide neck was an original spec of Macaferri's guitars, so some today's copies have one)
As previously mentioned, pre war parlour guitars often had wide necks, so copies (Recording King, Blueridge, etc...) have them too.
Some Republic resonators have wide necks (tricone and resolian)

Check out the Takamine TF740FS on the cover of Acoustic Guitar this month.

You can of course get most luthiers to build you a guitar with a wider neck, so there are many options there. I have a Claxton with a 1 7/8 nut.

I believe that the Chris Proctor signature model Taylor is a 1-7/8" nut width...not sure if they're still making this model, but they are available as pre-owned from time to time...

The guitars I know of with at least 1 7/8" nut width, that are built as a standard model spec have been mentioned. As Doug mentioned, most luthiers will build to suit. I have two built with wider necks because I spec'ed them that way. Both 1 7/8" or a bit over (one spec'ed in mm, so 48.00 mm = 1.890" vs 1.875"). A Tom Bills Genesis (1.890") and a Matt Mustapick (1.875") multi-scale baritone. If I ordered another custom built guitar, I'm sure I'd go with that width, at least.
