Inside an Estaban guitar (bracing pic)

I just ran across this picture from the following website:http://profpinto.blogspot.com/2005/0...ns-egress.html

Here's the pic and description below:

Someone cut the back off of an Esteban guitar to reveal its true quality workmanship! :(

I'm assuming that this is not a photoshop job.

I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but I thought ya'll would like to see the inside of one of these guitars since they are so "famous" on here. :D

Is that some kind of custom sound port?

I'm sure the bracing was done in that seemingly random manner to better accentuate the fine tone woods and top of the Esteban.

Who buys these things? I have yet to find one at a yard sale.

J.

Wow

WOW, if only I could afford one of those beauties. The crapsmenship is amazing. Maybe I could trade one or two of my used ones to get one. Someday, I'll have a guitar that sounds as good as an Esteban. But for now I'll have to live with what I have. I'll just buy the CD so I can learn "House of the Rising Sun". I've always wanted to learn that.:)

An Apology

I apologize for that last response.

Someone should put that instrument in a modern art gallery.

If not, then perhaps a real flame effect may improve things?

banpreso 09-18-2008 02:40 PM

that picture is... shocking

but the cuts are so clean that my first reaction was "photoshop"

is this nylon or steel string? if it's nylon then it's just a really crappy fan brace. if it's steel string then it's way outside the box

I'm not sure, you can check out that website and see.

I know for a fact that the craftsmen who build those guitars tap test each top to ensure there are no dead spots after the attach the bracing. So the bracing will vary on each individual guitar.

Ye of little faith.

Did you forget to post the wink emoticon?

Scalloped bracing no doubt. Or maybe "scalped" would be more accurate.

FLDavid 09-18-2008 03:02 PM

call me krazy but. . .

I think that "backless" feature should be standard (or at least an option) on all acoustic guitars so that players can feel the thundering bass in their chest

Chazmo 09-18-2008 03:05 PM

The truth is that most manufacturers do little to finish off the braces of make them look good in any way.

I think maybe you guys are joking about the actual design used here, or maybe the tilt of the braces. I don't know; maybe that was intentional.

Sometimes different is good, but I wouldn't even venture a guess on this one.

(yeah, nice sound port!!! :D )

Wadcutter 09-18-2008 03:05 PM

...btw, I read somewhere the case is actually worth more than the guitar. I'm shocked.

Gee, I wonder if there was any difference in the tone [sic] after the surgery.

Think I'm gonna be ill.

My kid's Hohner Classic is better braced than that!

Jeff M 09-18-2008 04:10 PM

Esteban's have braces? Well, who would have guessed ?

Lawn Jockey 09-18-2008 04:15 PM

I was expecting to see a "House Of The Rising Sun" tab inside. I'm disappointed.

The tone can only get better! :D

That's not an Esteban; it's an even cheaper guitar (Argos?). The picture is taken from a web site that likes to put PCs together in unusual packages. Read more at The "Pomgolian Web Server". Here's the finished picture which shows the front:

can you believe all the people actually saying good things about these turds over at Harmony central?

spaceyben 09-18-2008 10:07 PM

I just got sick a little bit in my mouth...why would you show me that? I need a drink now:(

MissouriPicker 09-18-2008 10:46 PM

I believe that the guy who is Esteban definitly knows how to make money and I believe he is a pretty darn good guitar picker, but his guitars are pretty poor. My son-in-law was given (by my daughter...thought I'd taught her better) an Esteban Eldorado. It is the highest action that I have ever played. My fingertips are heavily calloused, but after7-8 minutes, I'm feeling the pain. It's got kind of a plastic finish over the wood. At first, I actually thought it was plastic. Even for a cheap cheap cheap guitar, it's poorly made in my view........I'm not knocking the man. His story is inspiring and his abilitiy is impressive, but his guitars suck. However, if these poorly made instruments actually do bring more folk into playing music, the that;'s good.

So you're saying that we're not even viewing the bracing of an Esteban after all! That's a Shame..... Now someone's going to have to cut the back off of a REAL Esteban and post the pic.

PorkPieGuy 09-19-2008 04:45 AM

Original poster here...I always question the legitamacy to websites and the info on the websites...this is why I posted the link.

Sorry if I started a big fuss over nothing. :)
