Live vocal Mic under $100
I've gone round and round with mics and I know a mic may work for one person's voice well, and not so well with someone else's. I've finally settled on a condenser microphone for my live rig, but I was just curious as to what you all use as your go-to live vocal mic under $100.
I have three I like: EV ND767a Blue Encore 100 AKG D5 I like the 767 because it has a high end sizzle like nothing else I've used. The Encore 100 works well run through a big board with compression, and the D5 rejects feedback very well. |
I love my Blue Encore 100......haven't felt the need for anything else for a very long time. Been through a ton of them over the last 40 years!

The ND767a is a decent mic that I use quite a bit, but is out of production and has been replaced with the ND76. I suspect the ND76 would be pretty similar to its predecessor.
In my morning used gear browsing I came across a used ND76 from a reputable retailer that I've always had good luck buying from. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...oid_vocal.html I do have a D5, but for me it doesn't sound as good as the ND767a. |

You can usually find a SM58 for less than $100 and they're pretty much the standard for live performance.

SM58 would be my recommendation as well.

Every singer should own an SM58.

I have SM58's, SM57's for dynamics (yes, a 57 on vocals works great), and when I'm solo or duo I use my SM86 stage condensers.

Another long-time SM58 user - sounds good, solid build.
I didn't need another one, but the price was right at Sweetwater's GearFest in July. |
