"Vintage" electric guitar prices have become astronomical in recent years, though I have no idea if this particular guitar will sell for that much. It's a cool guitar, but I wouldn't pay 1% of the asking price, myself, and unless it's tied to some famous player (I don't see any mentioned in the ad), I doubt anyone else will pay that much either.

What a bunch of double-talk. They're letting us know that there's a repair done underneath the pickguard, but for over a quarter of a million, they're not going to let us see it? If I had that kind of money to pay for an old guitar, I'm sure I'd find a lot more interesting prospects than one that's been cut into.

That is beyond insanity.

This is beyond stupid. It's a repaired guitar with no special pedigree at all.

Look, I get it - a TV Yellow Les Paul Junior is worth five figures. A 1927 Martin is worth five figures. Etcetera. This one is not that old and nothing special, not from someone special and it's not original.

I bought a 1967 SG for $500 two years ago.

I would not pay $2850 for a used LP no matter who played one like it.

I don't have a problem with it anymore than I do with any other collectible price. Whatever a willing seller and buyer agree to is their business.

Yeah, in this lofty price realm, no one will ever play this guitar. It's value is set solely by what someone else will pay for it, and whether or not you think it will be a wise investment that will increase in value. Like art, investments like this are very risky, maybe you'll make a lot of money down the road, or maybe you'll lose a lot of money. Me, I buy guitars to play. :)

Les Paul Bursts are widely considered the best solid body guitar ever built, and because they are associated with so many rock and roll and blues icons in their prime, such as Eric Clapton (Beano era), Mike Bloomfied, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Keith Richards, Duane Allman, Billy Gibbons, Paul Kossoff, etc, they command ridiculous prices. And the fact that they only made around 1400 of them doesn't hurt to keep those prices high! Here's a bit of info for those not in the know...

Yeah...that is real. If memory serves me correctly...2 years ago I saw (I believe it was) a 1958 Gold Top Les Paul in a sealed, humidity controlled display case listed for $250,000 at a well known shop in Nashville. I may be off +/- $10k or so, but at that kind of money, does it really matter? I saw it and just kept on walking...not interested. To my untrained eye, it looked like any other Gold Top Les Paul.

Funny you should say that number, I paid slightly under that for one of my used Historic Les Pauls, and slightly over that for the other one. And after a few years of owning them, both gigging and recording, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I've owned a ton of good vintage and new guitars and these two are easily in the top 4 guitars that I currently own, or have ever owned. They just make me want to play and sound good plugged into every amp I've got...

I have a friend that sold a fifty something sunburst Les Paul like that about fifteen years ago for $350,000 or maybe it was $250,000. I don't remember the exact price but it was up there. This is a true story. The guy doesn't play guitar and never has. So I had no reason the talk to him about guitars. His dad left him and his mother high and dry when he was very young. The guitar was all he had of his dad. Every so often over the years his wife would drag it out for a rummage sale and he would eventually put it back away. One day he was walking through an airport and some guy was playing a guitar that looked like his. They started talking and the guitar player told him that if he has an old guitar that looks like his it's worth allot of money. So he looked into it and ended up selling it. And of coarse the guy that sold the guitar didn't really need the money. Go figure.
