Tacoma Guitars
 

Does anyone have good or bad to say? I started to see some Koa guitars that look and sound real nice.

PLAYED SOME MAHOGANY MODELS THIS WEEKEND.

GOOD TONE AND VOLUME, AND SEEM TO BE STURDY.

OVERALL, THEY APPEAR TO BE GOOD GUITARS.

I dont own a Tacoma, but the lead singer in my brothers band has one, and I've played it. Very nice to play, very good sound and tone. I dont know what model the guy has, but the sound hole is above the strings. Overall, good guitar if you thinking about buying one, especially for the price, it sure isnt a Taylor, but could be a good beater guitar. heheh, just kidding.

Try doing a search on tacoma and you'll find that there have been lots of threads on this subject.

Overall, I would say that folks in these parts tend to like them (including me). The lower end dreads (eg the DM9) are pretty plain, but they are LOUD!

Does your ID mean you are also a fan of "Gibbys?" I have three and they are oddly enough each really special (quirks and all) for production guitars.

When searching for my first dred earlier this year, I tried out the DM9. I believe it's the cheapest solid top/back/sides guitar on the market. It sounds great but it's looks are a little drab. If your budget is under $700, the DM9 should be on your list. I've played other Tacoma models in the higher price range and they didn't impress me. I can't recall the model numbers now. When I say models, it was only a couple of other models. Try them out for yourself but I found that Taylor/Martin/Larrivee were far better choices over the Tacoma once you get over the $1k range. Just my opinion.

I DON'T OWN ANY GIBSON GUITARS, BUT I WOULD. I PLAYED A GIBSON HUMMINGBIRD OVER THE WEEKEND AND IT SOUNDED GOOD. I WOULDN'T BUY ONE SIGHT UNSEEN, THOUGH. WITH THE GIBSON'S THEY SEEM TO EITHER SOUND A1 OR ABSOLUTELY FLAT. YOU GOTTA PLAY IT BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO BUY IT.

I AGREE WITH THE THE POST THAT THE TACOMA DM9 SOUNDS GOOD (AND LOUD) FOR THE PRICE. DON'T KNOW ABOUT THEIR ROSEWOOD MODELS.

I had a JK50CE3 Koa Jumbo solid top and back with laminate sides , cuataway jumbo with Baggs electronics. Super guitar for 1500 dollars. I cant say a bad word about it. JW

Tacoma makes good guitars.

I was told that one of key founders of Taylor left to start Tacoma.

That's what the Tacoma dealer told me.

I first looked at a Tacoma D-16. Very nice quitar.

Some parts of Tacoma are made in Japan.

I ended up buying a Taylor 314c/e.

Martin, Taylor, and Tacoma are the top three selling quitars in the U.S..

I played a Tacoma koa recently and it sounded great.

That's surprising considering the price range of each brand. I would have thought Yamaha or Takamine would be more accessable and therefore a more popular purchase. I have no reason to doubt you but I wonder if those three brands are the top selling US made guitars?

I think Tacoma does the best job of disputing the Taylor claim that the 300 series is the best value in solid wood guitars. Im pretty sure the DM9 and 10 are all solid, and they each sell for in the 500-700 dollar range, and they are really nice sounding guitars. I considered a DM9 for a little while, but it was just too plain for me. It has a cheesy print rosette type thing that is just not working...they would have been better off to put just a solid white ring like the 3 or 400 series.

They have a nice deep sound in the dreads, and for 500 dollars, I think the DM9 (aside from its looks) would be the best recommendation I could make.

I own a couple of Tacomas and like them. I've written a fair amount about them before, so if you search on my ID you'll get a decent amount of info.

I own a Tacoma DR20 (sitka top, EI Rosewood b&s), and I'm in love with it. I searched around, played a LOT of guitars (Taylor, Martin, Larrivee, Collings, Seagull, etc) and the Tacoma was my favorite of any guitar under $2,000, and I got it for $500! It's VERY loud and very deep, yet crisp enough to define the high end too. Nothing against Taylor, but I'm a college student who can only afford one guitar, and I couldn't justify even buying the 310 over the Tacoma. My dad has a 410 and I like it, but I prefer my Tacoma, and it was half the price.

Interesting fact: Tacomas are made in Tacoma, WA. They started off by selling wood to Taylor and Martin, then started making guitars. They have some FANTASTIC wood.

Anyway, I love it. But as always, each guitar is different.
