martin d16 richlite fingerboard question
 

Those of you who own a d16 gt,can you tell the difference between
Richlite and ebony or rosewood?
Considering a d16 gt

People will knock it, but my first impression when I tried it was ''man, that stuff is smooth!''

I have it on my Road Series and it does everything it's supposed to do. And that guitar sounds just greats!

Maybe I'm crazy but I can't tell the difference, I had a D16RGT and wish I still had it....it opened up like a dream...never once did I think oh, this is richlite. If you play a guitar and like the feel and sound , well.... You'll know what to do..

My experience with Ebony is very sparse but I can say Richlite is a very smooth material and when I'm playing my Richlite-equiped DRS2, I feel nothing out of the ordinary. I've owned guitars with various types of fretboard material and quite frankly cannot tell one from another.

Seriously.

I sincerely doubt anyone really can unless they have something with splinters or some other defect.

But this is just my opinion...:D

I had a 000C Nylon that had a richlite fingerboard. I think richlite is smoother than wood. I didn't keep that guitar for very long, but that had nothing to do with the material used for the fretboard.

I own guitars with ebony, rosewood, and richlite. Blindfolded, I doubt people could tell the difference between richlite and ebony without really taking their time and feeling around.

For all the naysayers about richlite, I'll say it has made me a better player. It has brought my family closer togther. And even has inspired two books, twelve songs and screenplay out of me...all yet to be written though. What I'm trying to say is...if you think the price is right, go for it. I've never owned a d16 but I've played a few. They're pretty cool guitars with or without richlite.

Gotta D-16 Adirondack and if it's richlite or ebony or rosewood I'm just fine with it.

My M-36 is Ebony, 000-16 is Richlite. I love them both dearly and don't even think about the fingerboard material.

I've got a D16rgt with Richlite and I can't tell the difference. Well, maybe it seems nicer. It's a great, easy playing fingerboard. No tone difference either, sounds exactly like a good Martin. I've owned a J45 and a couple of vintage Westerly Guilds for comparison. This is my first Martin.

When I had my CEO-4R Martin were using Micarta (same stuff basically), for the fretboard and bridge. Felt good, looked good.
