Elliot Ultimate Capo
 

Wanting a slimmer profile capo, I ordered one of the Elliot made Ultimate capos from Elderly. Very finely made, it attached easily with a clip lock bar mechanism. Guitar hold tune well when it is applied as you only use the pressure necessary. It is a bit finicky about placement, wrong is totally muted and right is clear ringing sound. Very small amount of movement make the difference.

The small footprint is nice as it does not get in the way while you play, can be stored behind the nut. Overall, nice piece of gear I like better than my Shubbs that have scary leverage if you forget to re-adjust them. The Ultimate seems to work well on all three neck profile and widths I normally use.

When I saw your picture, I thought: "That is not an Elliot Capo. This is an Elliot Capo: http://elliottcapos.com " Then I went to Elderly's website and learned that yours is made by Dave and mine is made by Phil. (I don't know if they are related).
The Dave Elliot capo looks a bit like the Pearse "Old Reliable" capo.

Didn't know there were two "Elliots" in the capo biz. What are the chances? This one from Elderly looks like the one Dan Crary had out under his name.

On my John Pearse Ol' Reliable Capo, I put some strips of mole skin on the inside of the two bars so that the capo would be less likely to scratch the guitar's neck. I think this approach would work on this capo, too.

Actually, the two are spelled differently. Phill Elliott is the maker of the second capos referred to in this thread. (notice the two "t"s).

What are the odds!? LOL I ordered a custom Elite capo from Phil today. Can't wait for it to arrive.

I live in the UK, are they available in the UK and where can I see them. I would prefer the least obtrusive capo possible as I have a left hans incapacity caused by 4 stokes

Only source for them I have found is Elderly Instruments in Michigan. I'm sure they would ship to UK but probably won't find one locally to try.

HHP - got a question for you.

I capo all over the place, from the 2nd fret and as high as the 7th at times. I've heard that the Elliot Capos are custom fitted for certain nut widths but I'm wondering if they also can accommodate the differences in widths as I move up the neck.

I'd hate to spend money like that for a tool that may not fit my needs.

There's two different Elliots in the capo biz, Phil and Dave. I think you're referring to Phil. I've used the Dave version pictured up to the 7th fret on a 1 3/4 V neck D-18VS. Might go higher but I doubt I will. Phil Elliott's are trimmer designs. The Dave version is under half the cost of the Phil versions.

@Toby; Call Phil and Connie - tell them your neck dimensions - their standard Elite comes in different widths for capo work up to around fret 9, and then custom widths made to further fit your needs. They'll also fit the capo saddle shape to that of the back of the guitar neck.

All in all, you'll be very happy.
