Taylor GS6, anyone else like these?

I am going to make this short and sweet...

WOW, I played a GS6 yesterday that just killed me not to buy it, so balanced, great low end, and haunting chorus effect , especially played lightly. I just about had to peel myself away from it..

The salesperson said, "you are the only one that has played that thing," and it shows, not a mark on it...man alive.

The only bummer would be that I would be paying quite a bit more than to order it and have it shipped, but I was so tempted...

Whew, got that off of my back.

Does anyone else like the maple GS series? Am I one of a few who like the sound of Maple?

In the past, I also had a Martin JC-16ME Maple Aura that I got rid of and could kick myself because of it.

Maybe Maple is my tonewood, who knows, but I do like Mahognay too, and rosewood, and, and, and..

I'm dying waiting to finance either a new or used GS6/GSMS or a GS8/GSRS. I played a 2006 GSMS at Wildwood in Louisville Colorado last week and it was so fine my hands were almost shaking. Wish they had a GS8 to compare the tone to. Whichever one I get when $$$ gets together, it'll have electronics, (hopefully a K&K,) and some Colosi upgrades for tone.

I've got some really bad GS GAS...

Gs6!

I have a GS6 and it's sound is perfect to me. I had to weed through about four of them to find the right one, but when I did I didn't hesitate. The guitar just sings. I loved it so much I went and found it's sister GC6 a few weeks later. I'm now set for strumming and fingerstyle.

the GS6/Maple is the best of all the GS's IMHO...............I've owned 2 GS8's and if I ever own another Taylor it will be the Maple GS.............

I have a GS6 that I really like. Initially, I looked at another one in a store's inventory over a period of nine months. When I finally got to the point that I was sure that I really wanted it the dealer would not give me a reasonable price. In fact they claimed that it was not the one that I had originally played. Unfortunately, for them, I wrote down the serial number the first time I played it. I'm particularly adverse to those who lie to me.

I went home a called Jim at GR and ordered one with several extra amenities (vee neck, clear pickguard, two piece back, etc.) for much less money. I am very happy with the guitar. It's case lies in a place reserved for those guitars that get the most play (next to my Larrivee OM-05). The more I play it the better it sounds; although, I've noticed that it takes a few minutes of play before it warms up. I can play it all night long (and have) with no fatigue. The only problem I have is that it's too pretty, still doesn't have a scratch.

I love my GS6, I have played a few and all of them sounded great.
As far as price, I went on ebay and did a " save search" for a GS6.
If you are carefull and know how to "work" ebay you can find one for a very good price. You can check out what I paid, the ebay item number was 180268329220.
Good luck

I have a GS6 - absolutely LOVE it!

So does this mean that Maple will give you this tone with other manufacturers or is this exclusine to what I am hearing in the Taylor? I have not seen that many maple bodied guitars other than teh 614 series around here.

I feel the same way.

Pictures of my 2006 GS-MS, if anyone's interested in having a look-see: http://s215.photobucket.com/albums/c...aylor%20GS-MS/

My preference is the GS7, the GS5 is a well balanced guitar too!

i like maple quite a bit...

had a chance to play a GS6 today, which had fairly deep bass response,
but compared to a 614ce, it didn't seem as well-balanced (to me, the mids
were slightly more compressed & trebles were a good bit brighter than the 614)

a GS7 was the one that i found very difficult to walk away from -
deep, warm, loud, complex overtones, very well balanced

i own a GS5, but maple is what i keep coming back to
(03 310L2, 84 612, 98/99 614ce, 02 614cLTD, 03 614ceL2, 03 ps14LTD -
all sitka/maple except the last 2, which have engelmann tops)

the GS6 was one of the few maple guitars that i've found to be real good.

Not a big lover of maple but woah the bass is tight!

The GS6 is great, just played one a few hours ago.

In the Taylor Road Show, Andy Lund was explaining that the Maple is preferred by people that play live in a band setting, because the Maple does not have so many overtones as the Rosewood. So it does not boom against the other instruments, and shines in the mix.

i've been playing My GSRS for a lil over a month now in my worship band. We're youth so you can imagine it gets pretty loud in the mix. But so far.. no problems.. i think they taylor sound is enough for a rosewood to cut through pretty well and of course some cut on the Bass eq.. So I woudln't barr the rosewood GS just cos you play in a band. I'm loving mine!
