Martin 000 MMV's
 

played a really nice focused one today at GC.......almost brought it home but decided to do some research on it first. So it's a 1 11/16th neck (actually feels wider though) short scale 000.....nice focused tone and a really nice bass response.....very, very focused and balanced....did I mention how focused it was............it is my understanding that the fretboard and bridge are made of richlite??? and not ebony???? can anyone confirm this???? Any comments on this guitar would be appreciated..... was not looking for a small body guitar but out of all the guitars hanging on the wall this one just stuck out......in a good way....

I'm pretty sure that the 000-MMV I briefly owned had an ebony fretboard. I loved the guitar, great tone, great build quality, nice factory setup and the price is perfect, but I couldn't keep it.

I believe the 000-MMV shares many of the properties of its sister dread, the MMV. It has the 1 11/16" nut width, an ebony fretboard and bridge, and, I'm fairly certain, a long scale of 25.5". It has a solid sitka spruce top with solid rosewood back and sides. I own the MMV dread and think it's the best kept secret in Martin guitars. The only reason I don't get a 000-MMV is because I already own a 000-28EC, which I find to be the perfect 000 guitar for me.

I played one of these at Guitar Center during a sale weekend and probably would have purchased it if it had a 1 3/4" nut. The tone and playability were great as was the price on sale...

Louie, I'm sure you've read the threads about this guitar. They are superb - at any price - and phenomenal at their selling price. I bought mine after playing 5 different ones at three GC's. All were great but slightly different - as usual. I was playing mine last night and was thinking that if I had to sell every other guitar I have, and keep only one, that one would be a superb choice to keep.

Nice guitars, but I'm pretty sure they're not short scale. If that's important to you (it was to me), you may want to check.

The MMVs are nice guitars, entry level (for Martin) but all wood, and yes the 000 is short scale, there currently is no OM.

My GC has and sells a lot them, every one I have picked up has been a pretty nice guitar, at their price point I think they are excellent. No Richlite, short scale and 1-11/16" nut.

000s and OM's overlap like crazy (same body unless 12 fret) but the traditional difference has been 1-11/16" nut and short scale on the standard 000's, and wider nut and long scale on the OM's, but there are a LOT of exceptions.

I think that is generally true, but not correct on the "sub-Standard" models...

Generally, 000 Standard series and above are short scale and below Standard Series (below Style 18) are long scale. Since the MMV's design is essentially a 16 Series, logically it would be long-scale, however, it IS a Custom so either read the spec sheet or measure from the middle of the nut to the middle of the saddle. If it's under 25', it's short scale, if it's over 25", it's long scale.

well I decided against the 000-MMV and went with a Martin OM-21. It is shipping to me from the Rockland, Maryland GC next week. Pictures and sound clips to follow !!:D

It would be nice if Martin published the specs. Pretty sure they're based on the 15-series (non-scalloped, single tonebar, A-frame), and they're long scale.

That bracing pattern is great if you want bass.

The OM-21 is nice too, though. :)

Just curious. Did you see the guitar online in the used section and called the store to buy it??

Was just thinking about that. Didnt know if other GC's shipped used guitars like that.

just got one of these wonderful creations yesterday at GC. I am wondering how this guitar got there as its brand new with pick guard plastic still on. Is Martin still making these for GC? I spent 75 minutes playing it, and 4 people gathered round to listen... it was a special moment. It was soooooo nice to play this guitar! I was affraid to put it down for fear one of the 4 stalkers may grab it! Anyway it's a really GOOD guitar! I have paid twice as much for lesser guitars. what a pleasent surprise it was to find this guitar!
