Cool Edit Pro 2.0
 

OK, I have a PC-based recording configuration arriving in the next day or so.

I have Cool Edit Pro 2.0, will this do a similar job as a recording program such as Cubasis VST or Cubase SL?

It's all about the CUBASE!!!!

If you want to add midi lines and other "sound files" (i.e. samples) you may find CoolEdit a bit weak

a while back (before I bought CUBASE) I was using a free 8 track version of ProTools. ( http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/ )

If you have questions fire 'em at me, I spent a good deal of time and resources when I was writing and recording my album. it's my "alter-ego" I have an acoustic music loving side, and an electronica side (right now the electronica side is making me more money so it's winning! gotta raise funds for a new axe some how?!)

I have been using CEP since it appeared in the mid 90s and have followed each upgrade to the current CEP 2. IMHO CEP is a great software. I am not really sure what the others have to offer in regards to recording guitar.

The weak link is usually the soundcard and/or preamp used. I have had excellent luck with the Delta 1010. My preamp is currently the preamps on the Mackie 1402 and a Presonus MP-2.

I agree with LordOfLegerdem that the midi is a bit weak, but if you are not using midi and already have CEP2, then why spend the money on a new recording software. Just food for thought.

Or should I say: ruled? I've been using version 1.2 for a long time and quickly returned to it after one week of a demo of version 2.0. Maybe they have an update right now, but CEP 2.0 was nothing more than a random PC-crash generator.

Thanks for the thoughts so far. I've had CEP 2.0 for almost a year now but I've only used it to mess around with sound files. Obviously I'd rather use what I have than buy something else, this is a toy for me, no more than that.

I'm not concerned with MIDI which is good news.

The actual equipment I've ordered is basically what J.R. outlined several months ago. Behringer, Rode and m-Audio 2496.
