is this repairable?
 

perusing guitars and thinking about whether it would be cost-feasible to have this guitar repaired. I figure that anything past ~$300 or so would take it beyond cost practicality given the guitar and its price (i would be fine with gluing the binding rather than re-binding it). Also wondering if any eagle eyes can tell from the photo if we are looking at maple veneer over maple, or flame maple veneer over laminate. it appears to be the latter but i am no expert. Even if the crack in the veneer is unrepairable but stable i might be ok with just having the top re-glued to the sides if possible, but i'm not sure how feasible that is.

yes the cost will most probably be over $300.00 to be done properly. If you think it is a laminate look at the grain patterns inside the guitar and see if they are the same on the outside ..If they are a different pattern and grain wise then it is a laminated wood.

The sides are certainly ply and not solid,

Plywood sides.

I hate saying the word impossible, but extremely difficult to hide the finished repair on that one, if you can accept that it wont be invisible, then most luthiers I would expect charge around 100 dollars to fix

its an old guitar, and one thats only mildly collectible. i'm not concerned with making it perfect, rather patching the crack enough to make it stable and relatively smooth. I assume the low end $100 fix would just mean gluing and smoothing?

Yep.......

That's just what I did for dings on a uke and a guitar. I was fortunate that they both fell in just the right armrest spot.
