Upcoming NGD ABW/ Luckystrike Redwood .

I'm jumping the gun my as she's not finished and obviously not in my hands so I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot !

I've done my home work listened to many many guitars with varying wood combos and I kept coming back to a few then tried to put together what I think would hit the spot ... err I hope !?

So After I chose my wood I chose my builder and He is none other then
Ben Wilborn Or Wilborn Guitars .

I have to say Ben is one most nicest folks you'd meet ! Little short back story , right after my deposit my wife decided that I love guitars more then her as if I had a slew of them and there costs exceeded thousands of dollars only my Blueridge jumped the grand mark and I figure a man in his fifty's that doesn't do anything else deserves some sex once in awhile ( hope that was ok to say ) lol

Anyway divorce is ugly especially when theirs a child involved , my point Ben was compassionate and worked with me way longer then I would ever expected anyone to do , God bless him for that ! ( secretly he's been jonesing to build this as much as I have lol ! )

I call her for now my stealth baby lol
She is beautiful African Blackwood with Lucky strike Redwood top that I provided which I bought from " Harvl "who's a member here many thanks to you sir for helping make my dream come true !

I will post some pics in this thread soon as I can get to the pc Can't remember if I can post from my phone but give me a minute lol

Some special thanks to Islandguitar and Markus Wong both members here my memory has glitches so user names hit and miss lol

Not sure if it'll post all photos but this is the folder easiest way to do it I think :)

Great story. I, too, am interested in the Blackwood/Cedar combo. I bet it sounds awesome. I recently bought a Taylor 324 (Blackwood/Hog) and have been wondering how the Blackwood would match with Cedar.

Great news, Ray!!! I almost sent you a PM'd the other day to ask about your build. so happy for you that it's coming together......This will be a very distinctive beauty. Being involved in the build process is just a great experience.....and when the pics arrive, it's like a little Christmas package each day they come in! :)
Thanks for the update.......this one will be special.

Hugs Fred :)
yeah man she'll be awesome . I can't stop thinking that I'm not worthy of such an instrument once I started seeing the pics .

Funny how things go I was thinking about the tuners and I really like the 18-1 open back I have on my Blueridge they work great for open tuning when that little tweak , So I mentioned to Ben my interest but ultimately let him pick what he liked or thought was best .

Ben came back saying he found a set of special order German made Schaller grandtune 21:1 then said they look pretty stealthy coining my phrase lol he asked if I wanted them ? I said hell yeah ! Lol

I truly wish I could see this process up close and personal what an experience that would be ! ;)

Not yet, sadly. But if you're in Northern California, you're welcome to try it out.

African Blackwood (Riak's guitar) is completely different from Australian/Tasmanian Blackwood used in Taylor's guitars. Completely unrelated. Doesn't look or sound the same. African Blackwood is a rosewood; yours is an acacia, like koa. So if you're curious about cedar over your blackwood, you may want to try a cedar/koa guitar, which may be easier to find than a cedar/Tasmanian Blackwood model.

Sorry, I should have listed the Hog (top) first.

Awesome Photos Rog , I know of the different Blackwood titles but totally forgot about them .

I think I'm lucky in one aspect that is I have a two piece back the catch is if I'm right it's not full quarter sawn but close .

Ben mentioned the ABW rings like a bell so maybe I won't need that tone wood amp after all ! Lol ( only kidding ) but would like one anyway haha
