Kwasnycia Brazilian AdI Jumbo

Happy new year!! and yes, it has been a while since I have posted a build. My client agreed to let me post this one of his build and has is under way.

So the details:

-Adirondack Spruce top, one of the nicest I have seen, especially for a Jumbo.
-Brazilian Rosewood back and sides
-Maple binding on body and neck
-Brazilian sound hole ring with Abalone shell.
-Fret markers to be determined.
-Gold Evo frets
-Rear headstock plate

It's an under stated build, but I anticipate one with killer tone!

Looking good, Dennis. I've missed seeing one of your builds documented here. I always find them inspiring.

Beautiful, Dennis. A question: Do the braces ever want to slide a bit when you do the vacuum process or do they stay exactly in place while the air is being pumped out?

Thanks Neil, I will be posting more than this one soon. I have been saying for some time now that I will be making a new OO model. Well it is finally on the drawing board!

Using the vacuum press with a rubber membrane like mine? No, there is no movement. I have not use one with a plastic type of membrane so I can't comment on them. That said, there are times I still use the Go Deck for certain jobs.

Hey Dennis,

Glad to see you posting and I will be watching this one. Looking great so far. I know how hard it can be to stop, take a photo when you are in the mode. I often miss chunks of the process. Anyway, it will be great to watch this one come together. (Love the vacuum fixture.)

Hi Dennis, nice to hear from you again. Looks like it's going to be another great build! Regarding the laminated sides, did the client specifically request that or is that part of your builds?

Thanks John, Ya, time can go by sometimes being preoccupied with the build process and then realize OOPS! TOO Late, the body is already closed up, another picture missed. I have skipped some shots on this one and skimpy on others. Having a third hand would be handy though when taking pictures!! :D

As for the vacuum press, I have been using it now for almost 17 years. One for backs and one for tops.

Nice work, Dennis. I'll be following this one.

Hey Dru, The Brazilian Rosewood sides on this guitar were a bit of a problem that I have never come across before, on this type of wood. Not feeling confident with the integrity of the sides, I made the decision to laminate them after convincing my client this would in the end, be better. I typically don't or haven't laminated sides, but, seeing how this set went, I can see why some builders do this automatically. In the future, when it comes to sides, I may do this again on some wood that is prone to cracking or on request. It really makes for a stable side set.
