Recommend ONE album that you've REALLY enjoyed listening to recently
I know some people dislike talking about favourite guitarists/albums because there are too many to choose from
Here's a simpler request: Recommend ONE album that you've enjoyed immensely in the last wee while (and maybe post one or two songs from the album that you especially enjoyed) I'm going to start by recommending "High Wide and Handsome - The Charlie Poole Project" by Loudon Wainwright. It's a double album and a great one at that. Some nice acoustic guitar playing and just an all round great vibe that's get's better with repeated listens. Here's a couple of songs that I love from the album. (I can't seem to post videos without getting error messages these days so here's the simple links). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1Uv...ature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QSIYHKPcDY |

This may get me banned, or at least shunned :D, being the devout contemporary fingerstyle acoustic guitarist that I am BUT the music I've played and enjoyed most often lately -- believe it or not -- is Extreme's "Pornograffitti". Revisiting the sins of my youth...since I can't afford a sports car!

"Notes from Helen" by Helen Avakian.
Like her originals (especially the opener "Icarus") and covers too (nice abridged "Rhapsody in Blue"). Not on iTunes yet, so I bought the CD from her website. |
Jay William Henderson, The Sun Will Hurt Our Eyes.

I've actually been into an album by a friend and co-worker, a very talented mandolin player named Todd Collins, who's also really good on guitar. Sadly I can't post a song example for my first entry, it's not 'on the net'. I did add one of his songs to my bag of tricks however, the album is titled Blue Soul and the song is The Great Escape.
*My mistake, you can hear samples HERE. |

Got the portable record player out the other night while we sat on the back porch with friends. This record, which I hadn't listened to in decades, was the best one of the night.

Something More Than Free by Jason Isbell. I can't find a song on there I don't like, but if I had to choose a favorite it would be Speed Trap Town.

Tom Waits - Mule Variations

My favorite
Detour - "As Fast as I can" Bluegrass Thanks for Dead utube ,I copied the url, "Barton Hall", 77 was Grate |
Mark Knopfler - Tracker. I think the Rolling Stone review nails it.
"Knopfler's quicksilver guitar is understated, and he delivers stories of stoic ache like an old watchmaker on a pub stool — quietly riveting." |
"If I Could Only Remember My Name".........David Crosby
